Berch Berberoğlu, Ph.D., is Foundation Professor of sociology, department chair, and director of graduate studies in sociology at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he has been teaching and conducting research for the past 38 years.
He was born in Istanbul, is knowledgeable about Turkish history, culture, politics, and society, is fluent in the Turkish language, and has lectured at a number of universities in Turkey, including Istanbul University, Boğaziçi University, Koç University, Sabancı University, Istanbul Bilgi University, Marmara University, Akdeniz University, Ankara University, and the Middle East Technical University, among others.
Dr. Berberoğlu has written and edited 32 books and many articles. His most recent books include Globalization of Capital and the Nation-State, Nationalism and Ethnic Conflict: Class, State, and Nation in the Age of Globalization and Beyond the Global Capitalist Crisis. His areas of specialization include political economy, globalization, development, and political sociology.
Dr. Berberoğlu will lead the lectures, field trips and tours throughout the program with the assistance of local graduate student mentors.
